:: Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in the UCO Oral History Archives?
The program seeks to interview as many UCO alumni, faculty, staff and Oklahoma residents as funding allows each year. Interviews with out-of-state residents, with a University connection, will be considered.

What if there are subjects/events that I do not feel comfortable discussing?
We understand that many of the issues covered in an interview can be difficult or sensitive in nature. You do not have to discuss anything that makes you uncomfortable. If you will let us know about these issues before the interview the interviewers will adjust their line of questioning to suit your wishes.

I do not travel much. Can you interview me in my home?
Yes. If you live in the State of Oklahoma, our interviewers can travel to your home or to another convenient location, such as your office or the home of a relative. Otherwise, interviews are conducted on the University of Central Oklahoma campus in Edmond, Oklahoma

What will happen to my oral interview after it’s completed?
Your interview will be transcribed and you will receive a copy to review for errors, such as miss spelled names. Once you have had an opportunity to review your interview and made necessary changes your interview will become part of the UCO Oral History Archive and will be posted on our website. The original will be permanently kept in the UCO Archives & Special Collections.

What if I know other people who would like to be interviewed?
We would be grateful if you would direct anyone wishing to be interviewed to our website to download the Pre-Interview Survey. Once we receive their Pre-Interview Survey we will contact them to set up a convenient interview date.
